This exquisite couch is likely by Eric Merthen for IRE Möbler, although same/ similar designs were also crafted by Profilia Werke in Ennigerloh, Germany. Previous records also include that some of these sets were manufactured under license (Eric Merthen), by Grafton Everest during the mid-1960s, though the information is extremely limited.
Note the exquisite design lines, sculptural elements and the “burl” on the backrest top-frame that we ensured to showcase. A testament to pioneering mid-century modern design with a Brazilian influence, this piece boasts flawless proportions. The solid teak frame exudes strength and sophistication, while the plush upholstery on the seat, armrests, and backrest ensures unparalleled comfort and style.
Its quality and design speak for themselves, ensuring its enduring appeal and worth. While the design could be attributed to either Eric Merthen, Profilia Werke or under license, this piece remains highly valuable and sought after. Like many vintage pieces from the 1960s, the maker's mark is no longer intact, so we cannot definitively label it as one or the other. Some archival records also suggest Grafton Everest as a possibility, though the information is extremely limited.
Traditionally the armrests have studs that clip onto the armrest frames and cannot be removed from the wood, but to showcase the glorious wood grain on the armrests, we have opted to add zipped armrest covers, to provide you with the option to remove them and showcase the wood.
This couch beautifully honors design icons while delivering a uniquely luxurious and comfortable seating experience, making it a standout addition to any space. The solid teak wood frame has been meticulously restored, refurbished, and refinished to highlight its natural beauty.
The upholstery, done in a rich black Hertex fabric, adds a touch of modern elegance. We’ve also completely restored the base, replacing the damaged straps and lining with durable webbing covered in traditionally-used materials, and then recovered the base to ensure that the base matches the upholstery perfectly.
