The "NY Style" foldable chair is a timeless and iconic piece of furniture that pays homage to Takeshi Nii's original design from the 1950s. The name "NY Chair" is a clever play on the designer's family name, Nii, as well as a nod to the Danish word for "new" or "fresh." Takeshi Nii's passion for chairs, sparked by a director's chair he saw in a magazine before WWII, led him to create this innovative folding chair in 1958.
This replica chair was inspired by the beauty of Danish chairs with fabric seats that Nii encountered during his tests for functional chairs. The resulting design not only garnered numerous awards but also earned a permanent place at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in 1970, solidifying its status as a design classic.

The wood has been restored and sealed while the chrome has been cleaned however has visible age-consistent marks on it, upholstery has been done in a Mustard /Yellow fabric from Hertex Fabrics.
