A sleek minimalist Stilnovo floor lamp, made in Italy, with a clean, functional design characteristic of Italian lighting from the latter half of the 20th century. Finished in a soft "off white", the lamp features a substantial circular weighted base, slender upright stem, and a compact domed metal shade.

The upper arm is articulated at the stem, allowing the light to be angled and positioned as required, while the domed shade directs the light downwards. The simple geometry, minimal detailing and small chrome accents give the lamp a distinctly modern appearance without being overly decorative. Its slim footprint makes it particularly practical alongside an armchair, sofa or reading area.

The underside of the base carries the STILNOVO Made in Italy stamp, confirming the manufacturer. Based on its form, construction and finish, it dates from the 1970s to early 1980s.

While examples of these lamps, even in less than perfect condition, can sell internationally for between R48,000 and up to R100,000, we simply cannot justify placing ours within that price range.

About Stilnovo: Founded in Milan by Bruno Gatta in 1946, Stilnovo became one of the important names in post war Italian lighting design. The company developed a reputation for combining innovative forms with practical, industrial production and worked with some of Italy's leading designers, including Joe Colombo, Gae Aulenti, Ettore Sottsass, Cini Boeri and the Castiglioni brothers. Stilnovo remained particularly influential through the 1950s, 60s and 70s, producing lighting that reflected Italy's increasingly experimental approach to modern design.

Condition:

In good, restored vintage condition and working order. The lamp has been fully resprayed, as the original painted finish showed significant chipping and scratching. The new colour was carefully selected to match the original off-white finish as closely as possible, while retaining the character and overall appearance of the piece.

Minor age-related markings and subtle surface imperfections remain faintly visible in places. The manufacturer’s stamp remains visible on the underside of the base. Wiring, foot switch and fittings remain as found, with the lamp appearing largely undisturbed overall, although originality of all individual components cannot be confirmed. The lamp is in working order.

There is slight movement to the metal shade, which has been attended to and is not considered significant. This was likely caused by the shade itself being used for adjustment rather than the adjustable stem as intended.

Dimensions:

21 cm diameter of the base x 123cm H

Shade: 14 cm diameter x 11cm H

Note/Disclaimer:

Our images form part of the item description. While we make every effort to restore our furniture to its original state, most pieces date from the 1950s to the late 1970s. As a result, and despite restoration, signs of their vintage nature and previous life may still be visible. Light traces of restoration may remain visible, consistent with authentic vintage furniture. In some cases, minor adjustments may also have been made during the restoration process to ensure the piece remains functional and usable. We will point out any notable aspects where possible. We encourage in-store viewing or careful review of photographs before purchase.

All items are carefully wrapped and prepared for transport by us (not the courier) to ensure safe handling. Once items leave our premises, we cannot take responsibility for their treatment by third-party transporters. We strongly recommend arranging goods-in-transit insurance for comprehensive protection.
