A beautifully proportioned, collectible desk crafted in solid Imbuia and designed by the celebrated South African furniture designer E.E. Meyer for Binnehuis in the 1970s.
A true representation of Meyer’s design philosophy, the piece balances sculptural form with functional clarity, refined, confident, and unmistakably modern.
This is a double–sided desk, featuring drawers on the working side and a full bookshelf / open display shelf at the rear, making it ideal for placement in the centre of a room, a studio, or an executive workspace. The legs and side framing are shapely and architectural, giving the piece presence without heaviness.
The wood grain is beautifully active in the light, with rich, warm undertones and deep natural variation typical of well-aged Imbuia. It has been fully refurbished and refinished, restoring its luster while maintaining the integrity and tactility of the original craftsmanship.
Eben Edouard Meyer (E.E. Meyer) is regarded as one of South Africa’s most accomplished mid-century furniture designers, known for producing high-quality, handcrafted, limited-scale pieces that were never mass-manufactured. His work is celebrated for its sculptural silhouettes, exceptional timber selection, and distinct modernist influence. Today, Meyer’s designs are highly sought after and considered heirloom investments, representing an important chapter in South African design heritage.
A rare and timeless piece — functional, expressive, and collectable. Ideal for a home study, office, or carefully curated interior.
