A striking mid-century coffee table designed by John Tabraham for Kallenbach, crafted in beautifully grained solid Kiaat and dating to the 1970s. The design is instantly recognisable: four wide slatted Kiaat panels form the top, each with softly rounded edging, while the base is anchored by Tabraham’s characteristic angular leg structure, simple, architectural, and unmistakably refined.
The piece has wonderful versatility. Its long, linear profile allows it to function not only as a coffee table but also as a bench-style surface along a wall, layered with cushions or scatters for a relaxed, Scandinavian-inspired look. As with all Tabraham work, it is exceptionally well made - solid, weighty, and built to last for generations.
The Kiaat has been fully refurbished and sealed, showcasing a rich, even finish that highlights the natural tonal shifts and movement of the grain. It is presented in superb vintage condition, offering both sculptural beauty and everyday durability.
A timeless South African modernist classic with the craftsmanship and presence that make Tabraham’s pieces so sought after.
