This beautifully crafted mid-century dining table, in the manner of the renowned A.H. McIntosh of Kirkcaldy, embodies the refined elegance of 1960s modernist design. Featuring a clean, Danish-inspired silhouette, the table combines functionality with timeless style. Compact round table, extendable to oval.
The tabletop has been expertly re-veneered with "Etimoe" wood, chosen for its close resemblance to the original teak, offering a rich tone and striking grain pattern that mirrors the warmth and character of the period. Etimoe is considered a high-quality hardwood, particularly valued in fine furniture and veneer work.
The result is a flawless finish that honours the table’s original aesthetic while enhancing its durability.
At its core is a smartly concealed butterfly extension leaf, self-storing beneath the surface. Simply pull each end outward to reveal the hidden mechanism, the leaf folds up and pivots into place, transforming the round table into an elegant oval ideal for larger gatherings.
The piece rests on oval-shaped, rounded legs that offer solid support while contributing to the table’s graceful, modernist presence. Though the maker's mark is no longer visible, extensive research supports attribution to either a British or a Danish maker.
Fully restored, including sanding, sealing, and the new top in Etimoe veneer work, the table is in excellent vintage condition. It has a few signs of wear on the base, but overall not very noticeable. Its adaptable size makes it perfect for both compact and open-plan dining spaces.

As with most Mid-Century pieces, it is a good combination of solid wood and a high-quality wood veneer. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on the veneer's artistry, condition, and thickness the quality of the old veneer was long-lasting; for this reason, it can be retouched or sanded and refinished.
