A once timeworn piece thoughtfully revived, this reimagined mid-century desk now carries a crisp, modern edge while honouring its original character. After stripping the unit, the timber framework revealed some damage to the wood, prompting a full transformation: the body is now finished in a durable off-white coating, professionally sealed for longevity and easy care.
The drawers, however, retain their original warm timber fronts — a beautiful contrast that grounds the piece in its vintage roots. Each drawer is fitted with new retro-inspired black steel pulls, their half-moon silhouette adding a sculptural, graphic moment to the overall design.
The desk’s form is unmistakably mid-century: clean lines, purposeful angles, and tapered solid-wood legs that lift the piece lightly off the ground. The legs are slender yet sturdy, giving the desk an elegant stance without feeling delicate.
Importantly, the back of the desk has also been refinished in the same off-white tone, making it fully presentable from all sides, ideal for open-plan living, studios, or floating office setups where it sits proudly in the room rather than against a wall - if need be, a chair can be added at the back of the desk.
