A seriously impressive Postmodern leather swivel lounge chair, combining exceptional craftsmanship, generous proportions, and perfectly lived-in original white leather. Research into the design continues to point towards Artifort, although without a maker's label or confirmed model reference, the attribution remains unconfirmed.
Perfectly lived in, unapologetically luxurious and exactly how original leather from this era should look.
The quality of manufacture is exceptional. A substantial, solid steel circular swivel base with a contrasting cream/off-white centre insert anchors the chair, while the upholstery has been crafted with remarkable attention to detail. Deep buttoning defines the generously cushioned arms and backrest, with the distinctive leather flap folding over the back and meticulous zip detailing continuing around the chair and every individual cushion.
The original white leather has been deliberately retained. Decades of use have softened its colour from a stark white and developed natural creasing, subtle tonal variation, and areas of wear. It is this perfectly lived-in look that gives the chair its character and authenticity. Reupholstering it would have removed exactly what makes a piece like this so special.
Similar ones in worse condition sold for over R28000 each, abroad.
The leather has been thoroughly cleaned, including steam cleaning and our four-part leather cleaning process. Minor scuffing was attended to, together with a very small open slither to one seat cushion and two minor repairs alongside the zip line. It was then sealed and finished with a nourishing leather treatment to preserve its suppleness and character.
Condition: Good to great vintage condition and structurally very sound. The original white leather retains visible age-related wear, creasing, patina, and tonal variation throughout on all four chairs. Two of the chairs have aged with slightly more visible patina/wear, and two buttons have seemingly been repaired over the years. In-Store viewing is welcome if you wish to view in person before purchasing.
