A handsome pair of solid wood armchairs with a wonderful combination of traditional craftsmanship and modernist design. Their distinctive form carries an influence of Hans J. Wegner's celebrated Peacock Chair, particularly in the tall, sweeping backrests and the unusual arrangement of shaped spindles.
The steam-bent outer frames form an elegant arch, enclosing a combination of slender spindles and broader, gently sculpted central spindles. This variation gives the backrests a lovely fanlike appearance and sets these chairs apart from more conventional spindle back designs.
The beautifully shaped solid wood seats have softly rounded edges, complemented by straight, gently projecting armrests and slender upright supports. Long, tapered and outward splayed legs complete the design, with timber stretchers adding strength and stability.
There is something particularly appealing about the balance of these chairs. The graceful curves of the backrests contrast with the more defined lines of the arms and legs, creating a design that feels equally at home in a modern interior or a more relaxed country setting.
Comfortable and versatile, they make wonderful occasional or additional seating, whether in a living room, bedroom, or study. They would also be a lovely choice as a pair of carver chairs at the ends of a dining table.
