This striking pair of Mid-Century armchairs was made by Lubis in South Africa during the late 1960s to early 1970s. Crafted from solid Kiaat, the chairs feature squared frames, clean lines, and deep cushions for comfort. Offering a relaxed seating experience with a subtly angled backrest, encouraging a comfortable, laid-back posture rather than an upright sitting position.
Both have been completely restored, sealed, and reupholstered in a plush, midnight navy velvet-touch fabric, offering a rich contrast to the warm wood tones.
Lubis is celebrated for its timeless designs that blend Scandinavian modernist influences — from minimal lines to functional elegance — with locally sourced materials like Kiaat. These chairs are a standout example of their craftsmanship and Mid-Century South African design heritage.
The three-seater couch featured in some of the photographs is available separately here.
Condition:
Beautifully restored and built to last, the chairs are in excellent condition and ready to serve another lifetime of use.
Note: Previous dowel repair marks, possibly from a past restoration, are visible, though mainly on the back legs of the couch. We have completed a thorough and comprehensive restoration, and also worked to minimize these effects as much as possible.
Dimensions:
Overall per chair: 85cm W X 75cm D X 71cm H
Seat: 56cm W X 56.5cm D X 35cm H
