The price is for the pair of chairs
A distinctive pair of lounge chairs, dating from around the 1960s, with a wonderfully sculptural form reminiscent of, and in the manner of, the Scandinavian lounge chairs designed by Bent Møller Jepsen in Norway during the same period.
The chairs feature a generous curved back that sweeps forward to form the arms, creating an enveloping and exceptionally comfortable seat. Small exposed timber arm details interrupt the upholstered frame at each end, while the warm tapered wooden legs give the chairs a lighter profile and a great contrast against the rich upholstery.
The pair has been newly upholstered in a luxurious Hertex fabric in a deep peacock green, a colour that shifts beautifully between rich green and blue tones depending on the light. The subtle texture and soft sheen of the fabric work particularly well with the rounded shape of the chairs, while allowing the restored timber details to stand out.
Although unmistakably Scandinavian in influence, these are in all probability South African-made chairs from the late 1960's. Their similarity lies in the sweeping upholstered form, compact proportions, and exposed timber detailing associated with Scandinavian lounge furniture of the 1960s.
Comfortable, characterful, and easy to place, they make an excellent pair of lounge or occasional chairs without requiring the space of larger traditional armchairs.
Condition:
The timber has been restored and resealed, with new upholstery and luxurious fabric from Hertex Fabrics, completing the refurbishment. The chairs are in excellent restored vintage condition.
