A striking pair of mid-century lounge chairs designed by Theo Ruth for Artifort, Netherlands, circa 1950s. These sculptural chairs showcase the refined, organic lines that made Artifort one of Europe’s most influential design houses of the post-war era.

Notice the beautiful silhouette from the side & back.

Freshly restored, the frames have been restored & refinished. Reupholstered in a midnight-blue velvet touch fabric that elevates the chairs' soft contours while keeping their calm, modernist appeal intact. The deep blue tone beautifully complements the warm timber legs and accentuates the chairs’ iconic low, embracing silhouette.

These smaller in form, slipper-style chairs are a perfect addition to use as occasional chairs in the lounge, living room, or bedroom.

Theo Ruth (1915–1971) was Artifort’s first chief designer and played a pivotal role in shaping the brand’s early aesthetic. His designs from the late 1940s to the early 1960s introduced a new, comfortable, organically curved lounge style that bridged Scandinavian softness with Dutch engineering.

Artifort’s craftsmanship from this era is highly sought-after worldwide, with Ruth’s lounge chairs, especially wood-framed examples like these, becoming increasingly scarce on the market. Authentic pairs are exceptionally rare in South Africa, making this set a desirable collector’s find.
