A Vintage inlaid "Novus" games table. A rare collector, foldable table for easy storage when not in use.

Closely related to carrom and pocket billiards. Novus originates from Estonia and Latvia, where it is a national sport. The board is made of wood, and has pockets in each corner, and a wooden inlaid circle marked on the surface.

According to Google...Players use a smaller cue stick to propel their pucks / colored object discs (the Novus equivalent of object balls), knocking them into their pocketsRules for Novuss may vary; particularly during tournaments where special professional rules may apply to the game. The basic ultimate goal for each player is to strike all his/her discs into the pockets. Whoever pockets all discs first - is the winner.

Discs: 13 Red / 15 dark Brown / 6 Bigger light brown

As can be seen from the pictures, the legs fold in neatly underneath the table and it has a dedicated space holding the cues. The leg supports also have dedicated wooden blocks when in use for added stability. Note that if the table is not leveled the supports tend to not stay in the blocks. Possibly better to place the table on a mat or similar or secure it with a bracket at a later stage.

This table has been lightly restored to ensure the originality is kept. We had to rejoin a few of the dovetailed joints. In overall great vintage condition. It would seem that one of the cues has been replaced over the years.

94cm W X 94cm D X 83,5cm H

As with most Mid-Century pieces, it is a good combination of solid wood and a high-quality wood veneer. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on the veneer's artistry, condition, and thickness the quality of the old veneer was long-lasting; for this reason, it can be retouched or sanded and refinished.
