A striking sideboard by Novocraft, a SA maker from the 1960's, showcasing the clean lines, practical design, and warm timber tones for which the maker became known. Crafted in richly figured kiaat, the piece features a generous top surface, three drawers, and a combination of cupboard storage concealed behind distinctive recessed-door fronts.
The design is elevated by its beautifully integrated recessed wooden pulls, a hallmark detail that keeps the profile sleek and uncluttered. The original Novocraft badge remains in place, while the original key is still present and functional, adding to the authenticity of the piece.
The door fronts showed historical damage that was beyond practical restoration. Rather than attempting to disguise this, we reimagined them with a deep black finish, creating a bold contrast against the warm Kiaat and giving the sideboard a fresh, contemporary edge while remaining sympathetic to its original design.
Inside, the cupboards offer ample storage, with one section featuring a drop-front door that can double as a serving or drinks preparation surface, making the piece equally suited to use as a sideboard, drinks cabinet, or media console.
Condition:
This sideboard has undergone a comprehensive restoration. The timber was carefully revived to bring out the depth and movement of the grain, while the cabinet was fully serviced, adjusted, and refinished throughout. Cabinet door fronts were refinished in black, the original hardware retained where possible, and the piece now presents beautifully with only minor age-related wear consistent with its vintage nature.
