An extraordinary and rare 1960's 'Home Office' by Newcraft Ltd Design. Double door cabinet which opens up, revealing a complete office set-up. Reg. Design 911778.
This is a very unusual 1950's/1960's compact 'home office' piece of furniture, The entire 'home office' closes to look like a standard two door cupboard, but when the doors are fully opened it reveals a fully fitted home office/desk.
It has numerous shelves for filing with a lovely leather topped writing 'table' with two extendable drop leaves which allows for a comfortable work surface. Beneath this is a full length drawer for the storage of writing/drawing equipment. Comes with a built in lamp. Top shelves, bottom shelves and storage. Additional shelving on the left and right and the list continues. A must see!
Restored and in overall good vintage condition considering it's age. A few marks here and there are visible and where we performed repairs. The right hand side door has to be pushed flush at the bottom to lock the cabinet if needed (slight contort). It is structurally very sound and the noted aspects of the cabinet does not detract from the sturdiness or overall structure from this piece.
As with mostly all Mid-Century pieces it is a good combination of solid wood & a high quality wood veneer. Quality old veneer was long-lasting and for this reason it can be retouched or sanded and refinished. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on workmanship, condition and thickness of the veneer itself.
