A beautiful Vintage shop counter that probably dates to the 1940s - 1950s with a wide and large display. Great to display merchandise items and/or to use as a shop counter. The framed brass strip around the cabinet adds character to this piece. It has tiered shelving and all merchandise accessible from behind the cabinet.
It is made of solid wood, and we have an additional piece of wood (that was probably added at a later stage), that can be re-attached and this will enable you to utilize this piece as a reception/retail counter, to hold a tablet/ laptop, POS terminal for example.
It does not function like a haberdashery counter for example where drawers pull out. This is a cabinet that will hold and display your stock and be handed to the customer on purchase. A real old-school gem!
The cabinet is in it's original vintage condition with some wear all consistent with it's age. In overall good condition and the front glass, angled glass all intact with no chips or cracks. There is a small crack only in one corner on the very top of the glass. The glass seems like it could be toughened glass throughout.
Because of the glass size and weight of this cabinet, it will not be available to be shipped outside the Gauteng area unless crated or own transport arranged.

As with most Mid-Century pieces, it is a good combination of solid wood and a high-quality wood veneer. The quality, old veneer was long-lasting and for this reason, it can be retouched or sanded and refinished. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on the workmanship, condition, and thickness of the veneer itself.
