Imbuia, sometimes referred to as Brazilian walnut in the international context, has long been valued for its rich tonal depth, distinctive grain movement, and naturally warm fragrance. In South Africa, it was considered a luxury hardwood and was frequently chosen by respected mid-century makers. Today, however, furniture-grade Imbuia has become increasingly scarce due to the protection of its native forests and the limited availability of large, mature trees. This rarity contributes to the desirability of vintage Imbuia furniture — particularly pieces of this scale.
