A Mid-Century round Sapele Mahogany dining table by John Tabraham for Kallenbach. The combination of wood and black steel was effectively used by Kallenbach and DS Vorster in the 60s for a sleek modernist look. This local furniture maker was renowned for high-quality work and typical Mid-Century furniture. The table seats 6 people comfortably. Note the beautiful wood grain on the top and feet.
The wood has been fully restored (stripped, sanded, and sealed) and the table is in great vintage condition.

As with most Mid-Century pieces, it is a good combination of solid wood and a high-quality wood veneer. The quality, old veneer was long-lasting and for this reason, it can be retouched or sanded and refinished. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on the workmanship, condition, and thickness of the veneer itself.
