A well-proportioned office desk crafted in Sapele Mahogany, very reminiscent of Novocraft designs, combining clean Mid-Century lines with practical everyday functionality. Its relatively slim profile makes it a versatile choice for a home office, study, or bedroom workspace without sacrificing useful storage or working surface.
The design is defined by its asymmetrical form, with a long floating desktop extending over a three-drawer pedestal on one side and supported by a single tapered leg on the other. The desktop is softly rounded at one end, while the open section above the drawers provides an additional shelf for books, paperwork, or smaller desk essentials.
Three generously sized drawers offer practical storage, complemented by black metal ring pull handles. Their simple dark finish works particularly well against the warm colour and pronounced grain of the Sapele.
The tapered legs, rounded edges and generous open knee space keep the desk visually light despite its substantial working surface. The Sapele itself is a standout feature, with considerable variation in tone and grain across the top, drawer fronts and sides, giving the piece plenty of natural character.
Condition:
The desk has been fully repaired, restored, stripped, sanded, and resealed to bring out the natural warmth and grain of the Sapele Mahogany. The desktop had significant prior surface damage, which required extensive repair and careful restoration. The damage has been greatly improved, with only slight marks remaining visible on closer inspection, indicating where the original damage occurred. Further intervention risked compromising the timber, so these subtle traces have been retained as part of the desk’s history.
Overall, the desk presents in great restored vintage condition. The metal pull handles have also been refreshed with a new coat of black paint. Refer to photos for detail or view in store.

Note/Disclaimer:
Our images form part of the item description. While we make every effort to restore our furniture to its original state, most pieces date from the 1950s to the late 1970s. As a result, and despite restoration, signs of their vintage nature and previous life may still be visible. Light traces of restoration may remain visible, consistent with authentic vintage furniture. In some cases, minor adjustments may also have been made during the restoration process to ensure the piece remains functional and usable. We will point out any notable aspects where possible. We encourage in-store viewing or careful review of photographs before purchase.

All items are carefully wrapped and prepared for transport by us (not the courier) to ensure safe handling. Once items leave our premises, we cannot take responsibility for their treatment by third-party transporters. We strongly recommend arranging goods-in-transit insurance for comprehensive protection.

As with many Mid-Century pieces, this item features a thoughtful combination of solid wood and high-quality wood veneer. Veneer has a long and respected tradition in furniture making, valued for both its aesthetic and structural benefits. When crafted with skill and applied in substantial thickness, vintage veneer proves highly durable, allowing for careful restoration, including retouching, sanding, and refinishing without compromising the integrity of the piece.
