Very rare and unique “Lurashell” made "Space Age" chair. It is not often a chair like this is found in South Africa. Already 50+ years old and still in great condition considering. This chair offers a headrest, a middle section that ensures back support and a deep seat that provides ultimate comfort. A piece that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but a showstopper too!
We have resprayed the fiberglass shell in white, reinforced some fiberglass on the inner frame & top of the base and upholstered it in a contrasting honey velvet feel Hertex fabric. The oversized buttons add to the wow factor.
The chair is stable, swivels, but should not be used as a rocking chair. Note the dimensions as this is a large chair. We could not do work on the inner section of where the base meets the shell as it did not come apart to re-enforce the inner swivel mechanism. It has minor surface crazing on the top of base, which was repaired to the best of our ability.
These chairs fetch in excess of between R38000 to R48000 unrestored in other countries (converted to ZAR).
97cm W X 53cm D X 91cm H
The low, matching coffee table is sold separately here.
