An elegant vintage Sapele & Crown Mahogany nine-piece dining set with beautiful proportions. Probably made locally by one of the well-known Knysna companies and marked with an "F" which might be for Fechter's, but the chairs are an exact John Tabraham design and have probably been made by Kallenbach in collaboration.
An 8-10 seater oval-shaped extendable table with beautifully shaped legs. The extension tucks in underneath the table for storage when not in use and is easily accessible.
There are 8 ladderback chairs in total with two being carvers with amazingly shaped arms. Newly upholstered seats in a green textured Hertex fabric. A sturdy piece of history to own for many centuries to come.
The wood has been completely restored & refinished and the table top has been redone with a brand new crown Mahogany wood veneer. The wood was stripped, sanded, and re-sealed in a matt sealant and is in excellent restored condition. Note the stunning wood grain on the top.

As with most Mid-Century pieces, it is a good combination of solid wood and a high-quality wood veneer. The quality, of the old veneer, was long-lasting and for this reason, it can be retouched or sanded and refinished. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on the veneer's workmanship, condition, and thickness.
