A Mid-Century Sapele Mahogany bureau/desk made locally by DS Vorster & Co furniture during the '60s. This renowned SA manufacturer was responsible for beautiful Mid-Century local furniture with clean lines.
A desirable piece with a wide drop-down front to provide spacious works/ writing space. Ample storage is provided in 5 smaller drawers behind the door and open shelving that is perfect for books or lever-arch files. Extra storage is provided in 4 good-sized exposed drawers at the bottom of the workspace. This piece will fit perfectly with most interior styles and practically be used as a home office, study desk in a bedroom, or seamlessly combined in an open-plan living space.
Because of its height, it could easily be used as a drinks cabinet.
The wood on this cabinet has been restored and some sections had prior damage, however, we have restored and refurbished these the best we could and the cabinet is in overall good condition considering its age, with a mark here and there showing previous life and vintage consistency.

As with most Mid-Century pieces, it is a good combination of solid wood and a high-quality wood veneer. The quality, old veneer was long-lasting and for this reason, it can be retouched or sanded and refinished. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on the workmanship, condition, and thickness of the veneer itself.
