An Amazing 60's Mid-Century Modern, Luigi Caccia Dominioni sofa set. This Italian set consists of a three-seater leather couch and leather armchair and was manufactured many years ago by Azucena. Continuous frame from side to back makes this set appealing from all angles. The black leathered bases, cushions, and backrests sit snugly between the frame.
Although this piece is attributed according to extensive research to Luigi Caccia Dominioni, it has no attribution mark - many of such found internationally online. Internationally they sell for between $7000 - $15000 for the sofa alone (between R128000 and R270000 - unrestored and around R174000 for two armchairs).
The frame was powder-coated in black due to the original chromed steel was in dire need of repair. The rust was evident and the chrome peeled, but with powder coating, the longevity is immediately extended. Should one wish to re-upholster the current leather, a contrasting color upholstery would accentuate the black frame well. The cushions, backrests and bases have been treated and leather cream has been applied.
The, what would seem the original leather cushions have a few age-related marks and the evident tears were stitched and patched. We opted to keep the original leather albeit the wear to ensure authenticity as far possible.
Please be advised that the side panel cushions tend to protrude slightly at the rear sides, a characteristic that appears to be in the design of this furniture set. To optimize their alignment and overall appearance, we have implemented the use of Velcro patches.
