The LC1 Chair is a true representation of modernist design principles, epitomizing the minimalist ethos of the late 1920s while introducing industrial materials to home furniture. "Le Corbusier believed that furniture should be sleek and fit for purpose but should not take up more space than was required so he stripped away all excess and in conjunction with Charlotte Perriand and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret designed the LC1chair which was shown in 1928".
Initially designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand, the chair exemplifies their groundbreaking approach to functionality, comfort, and form. With its polished stainless steel, chromed tubing, and leather seat supported by elastic straps, the LC1 creates a sleek, avant-garde aesthetic.
Despite its minimalist appearance, the LC1 is engineered for maximum comfort with a flexible and moveable backrest. The design revolutionized furniture production by leveraging industrial materials and techniques to create durable, forward-thinking pieces.
The frames have been cleaned and polished and the original hide is in overall great condition. These chairs are marked "Target, made in Italy", Target was one of the stores that sold the replicas at a more affordable price. These, however, are not new and can be considered "vintage".
- LC1 with hide and inlaid leather (a very good repair done over the years) and minor scratches on the top back of the leather arm (one arm only), not very noticeable overall.
- LC1 with hide and one string support on the underside of the chair is not intact as per the pictures. Not impacting any structural integrity.
