Timeless, sophisticated, and ready to anchor any interior
This beautifully balanced G-Plan highboard captures the refined sophistication of British post-war modernism. With its floating top, clean geometry, and understated hardware, it reflects the design philosophy that made G-Plan one of the most influential names in mid-century furniture.
Founded in High Wycombe, England, E. Gomme Ltd. introduced the G-Plan range in 1953 as a modern, Scandinavian-influenced collection designed for coordinated living. Known for high-quality craftsmanship and sleek silhouettes, G-Plan quickly became a staple of stylish mid-century homes.
This example features the signature floating top above three well-scaled drawers and a generous lower storage section with ingenious bifold doors. Inside, adjustable shelving and a thoughtful drawer layout offer excellent versatility, making it ideal as a drinks cabinet, dining-room server, or elegant lounge storage piece.
Brass handles and brass-capped feet add refined mid-century detail, while the original black ebonised base has been refreshed and sealed for longevity. The original G-Plan stamp remains intact in the right-hand drawer. The centred fold doors have been newly stained in a deep contemporary black, creating a striking contrast against the warm Tola-toned veneers, a subtle update that enhances the unit’s modern presence.

As with many Mid-Century pieces, this item features a thoughtful combination of solid wood and high-quality wood veneer. Veneer has a long and respected tradition in furniture making, valued for both its aesthetic and structural benefits. When crafted with skill and applied in substantial thickness, vintage veneer proves highly durable, allowing for careful restoration, including retouching, sanding, and refinishing without compromising the integrity of the piece.
