A refined and collectible dining suite designed by Cees Braakman for the renowned Dutch manufacturer Pastoe, showcasing the elegance and craftsmanship that defined his mid-century modern designs. This set includes a beautifully proportioned dining table with two loose extension leaves that tuck neatly beneath the tabletop when not in use, ready to be pulled out when extra space is required.
The suite is completed with six ladder-back chairs newly upholstered in a sumptuous olive green, velvet-touch fabric from Home Fabrics.
Professionally restored and re-sealed, the timber’s golden-brown tones and fine grain are beautifully revived. The table’s clean, tapered legs complement the chairs’ delicate ladder-backs, creating a refined, lightweight silhouette. Despite their airy appearance, lightweight design, the chairs are sturdily built, reflecting exceptional craftsmanship from nearly 60 years ago.
The set is constructed from solid Teak and high-quality Teak veneer, as commonly found in most mid-century furniture, with the chairs likely crafted from solid Afrormosia (African Teak).
Notably, similar sets by Cees Braakman for Pastoe sell in excess of R40 000 - R50 000 on the international market - unrestored.
Maker Background – Cees Braakman & Pastoe: Cees Braakman (1917–1995) was the head of design at Pastoe from 1945 to 1978, where he introduced modernist principles to Dutch furniture design, influenced by his exposure to Charles and Ray Eames’ work in the United States. Under his leadership, Pastoe became synonymous with innovative, functional furniture that embraced modularity, fine craftsmanship, and timeless style. His pieces are now highly sought after by collectors for their understated sophistication and enduring quality.

Expertly refurbished and restored, this suite is ready to bring new life to its next home. There are slight traces of previous use here and there, but overall in very good restored condition. Repairs were done where needed
