A DS Vorster, two tiered, Sapele Mahogany coffee table with a glass fitted top. Ds Vorster was a local furniture maker in the 50's and 60's and produced high quality furniture. The beautiful, clean lines will fit with most design styles and interiors. The wood has been stripped, re-sanded and sealed and the piece is in great vintage condition. A rare find.
As with mostly all Mid-Century pieces it is a good combination of solid wood & a high quality wood veneer. Quality old veneer was long-lasting and for this reason it can be retouched or sanded and refinished. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on workmanship, condition and thickness of the veneer itself.
