These striking armchairs are a confident expression of craftsmanship, designed in the spirit of the iconic Bonanza seating series by Finnish designer Esko Pajamies for Asko. While the exact origin cannot be definitively confirmed, the pieces are believed to be South African–made, interpreted through a bold, sculptural language aligned with mid-century modern principles.
The armchairs are constructed from solid hardwood frames. Although the precise wood species is unknown, the timber appears to be an imported hardwood, possibly Afrormosia, distinguished by its exceptional grain and rich visual depth. Pronounced cubist lines and confident proportions anchor the design. The exposed structure is not decorative but integral, creating a strong visual rhythm from every angle, particularly along the slatted backrests and squared arm supports. Fully restored and carefully refinished, the wood reveals warmth and character that speak to quality materials and skilled workmanship.
Generous seat and back cushions soften the frame's strong geometry. Newly upholstered in a textured cream fabric from Hertex, they introduce depth, comfort, and a quiet elegance while allowing the structure to remain the hero. The balance between firmness and ease makes these armchairs designed not only to be admired but genuinely lived with.
Designed for individual seating, these pieces work beautifully in larger living spaces or interiors that value craftsmanship, structure, and considered form.

The name Bonanza refers to a family of seating pieces traditionally defined by bold timber frames and generous upholstery. While these armchairs are not Scandinavian originals, they carry the same confident, enduring design language. Esko Pajamies (1931–1990) was known for balancing strong architectural structure with generous comfort, combining Scandinavian principles with a relaxed, human scale.
