A beautiful Kiaat Mid-Century dresser manufactured by DS Vorster & Co. DS Vorster was a renowned local manufacturer in the 50's and 60's of high quality furniture pieces with clean lines. The mirror is fixed to the top and cannot be easily removed for versatility like the other similar piece. These dressers were made as bedroom sets with the headboard in different colour woods with the same shapes but slight variations.
The wood has been restored and sealed and in great vintage condition. Mirror still 100% usable, age related marks here and there.
As with mostly all mid-century pieces it is a good combination of solid wood & a high quality wood veneer. Quality old veneer was long-lasting and for this reason it can be retouched or sanded and refinished. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on workmanship, condition and thickness of the veneer itself.
