A sculptural collector’s piece where craftsmanship meets artistry.
A striking and very uncommon “Art Nouveau | Arts and Crafts” armchair, distinguished by its higher, open backrest, elegant arm supports, and beautifully organic detailing throughout.
The gently curved vertical struts are enriched with inlaid foliate rondels, lending the chair a refined decorative quality rooted in nature inspired design.
The serpentine seat has been newly upholstered in a luxury Hertex fabric, introducing a sophisticated contemporary layer to the piece.
Raised on square section legs, with subtle block feet, the chair balances decorative detail with structural confidence. Importantly, the original maker’s mark remains intact, further supporting its authenticity and collectability.
Even the most contemporary home benefits from a piece with story, warmth, and soul.
Manufactured by “James Shoolbred & Co.” (Jas Shoolbred), one of Britain’s earliest and most respected furniture houses, established in the 1820s at Tottenham Court Road, London. By the late 19th century, the company became renowned for producing high quality furniture of their own design, often blending classical refinement with the craftsmanship and artistic principles of the Arts and Crafts and emerging Art Nouveau movements.

Note/Disclaimer:
Our images form part of the item description. While we make every effort to restore our furniture to its original state, most pieces date from the 1950s to the late 1970s. As a result, and despite restoration, signs of their vintage nature and previous life may still be visible. Light traces of restoration may remain visible, consistent with authentic vintage furniture. In some cases, minor adjustments may also have been made during the restoration process to ensure the piece remains functional and usable. We will point out any notable aspects where possible. We encourage in-store viewing or careful review of photographs before purchase.
