1960s Dining room suite by Maurice Burke for Arkana, Bath, England. This amazing ‘Space Age’ dining suite consists of the table and six matching chairs. Modeled after Saarinen's Tulip series of tables and chairs, the Arkana chair & table was designed by Maurice Burke in 1965 for the Arkana company in England. The chair features the classic hourglass shape with a 4 legged base.
The accompanying table is based on the classic Tulip series by Eero Saarinen for Knoll in 1956. The tulip shaped chairs are extremely comfortable. The original sculpted seat pads re-upholstered in a deep rust Hertex fabric creating a contrast and pop highlighting the gorgeous shape of the chairs.
The set has been professionally resprayed and a new 'centre' wooden piece made to cover the top of the table, so the inside of the table is not visible through the glass top. Laminated safety glass in excellent condition with minimal signs of damage.
Some of the chairs rotate and return to centre allowing the sitter to swivel out from the table and the chair then returning to its original position.
Table diameter: x 129
Cape Town / Durban shipment is NOT calculated at check-out. Should this set be shipped outside of Gauteng, the glass will have to be crated.
Although all effort is made to refurbish our furniture to best represent their original state, it must be noted that majority of the items we source date between the 1950’s to late 1970’s. For this reason and although restored, signs of their vintage condition & age might still be visible. We will normally point out any visible / notable concerns.
