An elegant Mid-Century Frystark dining set. The set was produced locally by Frystark in Cape Town during the '60s and was part of the 'Frystark Status range'. The teak table is extendable, with a removable center leaf that stores underneath the table - a specially made "slot" to slide in the leaf.
The six magnificently crafted chairs in solid imbuia are super comfortable with contoured backs and seats. Simplistic lines that will enhance any space and fit in with any design style. Note the beautiful wood grain on the tabletop.
The seats and backs were re-upholstered in a terracotta color Hertex fabric.
The extendable leaf is slightly darker in color, but to be expected as it was used less often. Leg on one chair was repaired, it had a piece of the wood missing and the entire set, stripped of it's old varnish, refurbished, restored & refinished.
The set is in great restored condition.
Table (Extended): 190cm L X 91,2cm W X 73,7cm H
Table Closed: 152cm
Chairs: 51cm L X 39cm W X 74cm H
As with most Mid-Century pieces, it is a good combination of solid wood and a high-quality wood veneer. The quality, old veneer was long-lasting and for this reason, it can be retouched or sanded and refinished. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on the workmanship, condition and thickness of the veneer itself.
