A rarer find - Designed by Cees Braakman for Pastoe in the Netherlands, this mid-century sideboard embodies the clean, functional aesthetic of the 1960s, combining refined modern lines with highly practical features. Notice the intricate curved drawer interior.
This piece rests on its original slender legs, which have been coated in black for a refreshed look. A distinctive charcoal-patterned "Formica" section on one side of the top was specifically designed as a drinks or serving area, protecting the wood from spills. The freshly updated ivory/off-white sliding doors open to reveal height-adjustable shelves mounted on a sliding base, allowing flexible configuration for bottles, tableware, or decorative objects.
On the right, four drawers provide generous storage, with the top two drawers fitted with removable cutlery dividers, and all drawers showcasing Braakman’s signature curved plywood interiors.
Condition:
Carefully restored and refurbished, this sideboard retains its original mid-century character, with renewed finishes that respect the designer’s intent while making the piece ready for contemporary living.

Note/Disclaimer:
Our images form part of the item/s description. Although every effort is made to refurbish our furniture to represent its original state best, it must be noted that most of the items we source date from the 1950s to the late 1970s. For this reason, and although restored, signs of their vintage condition & age might still be visible. We will normally point out any visible/notable concerns. Take note of all photos or view the item in-store prior to purchasing.
As with many Mid-Century pieces, this item features a thoughtful combination of solid wood and high-quality wood veneer. Veneer has a long and respected tradition in furniture making, valued for both its aesthetic and structural benefits. When crafted with skill and applied in substantial thickness, vintage veneer proves highly durable, allowing for careful restoration, including retouching, sanding, and refinishing without compromising the integrity of the piece.
