A beautifully balanced Mid-Century coffee table attributed to DS Vorster & Co. known for their precise craftsmanship and architectural clarity. Attributed based on "apron" design and leg taper design.
This design frames a couch or lounge suite beautifully.
This piece has been fully restored and the top professionally re-veneered in richly toned Sapele Mahogany, revealing a deep ribbon grain and satin finish that highlights the clean geometry of the design. The table’s two-tier structure offers both elegance and utility.
The lower slatted shelf provides ample space for magazines or décor, while the refined tapered legs and softly beveled edges reflect the quiet sophistication typical of Vorster’s 1960s production.
A timeless, functional statement of South African mid-century design, sturdy, elegant, and ready for another lifetime of use.
Condition: Restored and sealed; top re-veneered in genuine Sapele Mahogany; excellent structural integrity.
Dimensions:
152.5cm W X 62cm D X 49.5cm H (slightly higher than the average coffee table, though the height could easily be adjusted by trimming the legs if preferred, ideal for those not overly particular about small furniture modifications.)

Note/Disclaimer:
Our images form part of the item/s description. Although every effort is made to refurbish our furniture to represent its original state best, it must be noted that most of the items we source date from the 1950s to the late 1970s. For this reason, and although restored, signs of their vintage condition & age might still be visible. We will normally point out any visible/notable concerns. Take note of all photos or view the item in-store prior to purchasing.
As with many Mid-Century pieces, this item features a thoughtful combination of solid wood and high-quality wood veneer. Veneer has a long and respected tradition in furniture making, valued for both its aesthetic and structural benefits. When crafted with skill and applied in substantial thickness, vintage veneer proves highly durable, allowing for careful restoration, including retouching, sanding, and refinishing without compromising the integrity of the piece.
