A beautifully restored example of refined mid-century craftsmanship, this extendable dining table is crafted in richly toned Sapele Mahogany, showcasing the maker’s signature balance of elegance, utility, and sculptural form. The table is reminiscent of the designs of DS Vorster & Co., circa 1960s.

The oval top features an edge detail and an unusual grain layout, where the linear Mahogany pattern runs across the width of the table rather than along its length, a striking and deliberate design choice that adds visual rhythm and individuality.

Beneath the surface lies a cleverly engineered fold-out extension leaf, stored seamlessly under the table and easily pulled out when additional seating is needed. Fully extended, the table seats 8 people comfortably, making it ideal for both everyday dining and larger gatherings.

The base displays the classic Vorster aesthetic: crisp shaping, confident lines, and a grounded stance. Each leg finishes in a solid brass feet pad, a subtle mid-century accent that also allows for slight height adjustment, as the pads can extend or be removed as needed.

Recently restored and sealed, the table presents beautifully with a smooth, satin finish that highlights the natural movement of the Mahogany grain.

The chairs photographed with the table are available, separately, here

A timeless, functional, and quietly sophisticated piece of South African design history.

Note/Disclaimer:

Our images form part of the item/s description. Although every effort is made to refurbish our furniture to represent its original state best, it must be noted that most of the items we source date from the 1950s to the late 1970s. For this reason, and although restored, signs of their vintage condition & age might still be visible. We will normally point out any visible/notable concerns. Take note of all photos or view the item in-store prior to purchasing.

All items are carefully wrapped and prepared for transport by us (not the courier) to ensure safe handling. Once items leave our premises, we cannot take responsibility for their treatment by third-party transporters. We strongly recommend arranging goods-in-transit insurance for comprehensive protection.

As with many Mid-Century pieces, this item features a thoughtful combination of solid wood and high-quality wood veneer. Veneer has a long and respected tradition in furniture making, valued for both its aesthetic and structural benefits. When crafted with skill and applied in substantial thickness, vintage veneer proves highly durable, allowing for careful restoration, including retouching, sanding, and refinishing without compromising the integrity of the piece.
