A beautifully preserved Hitachi DPK-305 stereo system, produced by Hitachi Ltd. in Tokyo during the 1970s, capturing the warm optimism and refined engineering of the era in one compact home entertainment unit.

Designed as an all-in-one stereo console, the DPK-305 integrates an AM/FM stereo tuner, built in turntable, and amplifier controls into a single cohesive form as per research- paired here with its original external speakers.

The system carries the restrained, architectural styling so synonymous with vintage Japanese audio design, balancing rich timber casings with brushed metal detailing, black glass style fascia panels, and softly illuminated controls.

The speaker cabinets are clean and understated, framed with subtle metallic trim and woven fabric grilles, offering a timeless presence whether styled in a lounge, study, or dedicated listening space. Features such as the ambiophonic sound settings and stereo playback reflect the era’s growing fascination with immersive home audio.

The turntable retains its original smoked dust cover and integrated controls, with the system presenting as both a functional audio piece and a strong decorative object in its own right.

Originally designed for reliable domestic use, these Japanese market systems have become increasingly sought after for their nostalgic appeal, warm analogue sound, and distinctly period-correct aesthetic.

A charming and increasingly difficult-to-find complete setup that effortlessly bridges collectible design and everyday enjoyment.

Condition:

This stereo system remains in working order, as demonstrated in the accompanying videos. Please note that the turntable includes both manual and auto settings, although these functions have not been specifically tested, and we are therefore unable to confirm their operation. Light age related patina and subtle signs of vintage use are visible in places, entirely consistent with a well kept piece of this age.

Note: The treble control “cover button” is no longer present, but the control is functional and adjustable.

While we are not specialists in vintage turntables or radio systems, the main components appear to be operating well based on our testing. The system powers on and functions as expected, though, as with most vintage electronics of this age, a service or tune up would likely be beneficial for optimal long term performance. That said, it presents as a very cool, character filled system with plenty of nostalgic appeal.

Dimensions:

Stereo Console: 50cm W x 44cm D x  23cm H

Speaker Cabinets: 28cm W x 26cm D x 48.5cm H

Note/Disclaimer:

Our images form part of the item description. While we make every effort to restore our furniture to its original state, most pieces date from the 1950s to the late 1970s. As a result, and despite restoration, signs of their vintage nature and previous life may still be visible. Light traces of restoration may remain visible, consistent with authentic vintage furniture. In some cases, minor adjustments may also have been made during the restoration process to ensure the piece remains functional and usable. We will point out any notable aspects where possible. We encourage in-store viewing or careful review of photographs before purchase.
