Two armchairs are available separately
Two beautifully resolved mid-century armchairs, sharing a common design language while each holding its own distinct presence. The forms echo the refined restraint design associated with Lubis or Bakker & Steyger, where proportion, line, and craftsmanship quietly lead.
The defining feature lies in the sculpted spindle backrests. Slender vertical rods rise rhythmically within the frame, creating a light, open structure that contrasts beautifully with the solid, contoured armrests. This interplay gives the chairs an architectural clarity without feeling rigid, allowing them to sit comfortably in both relaxed and more considered interiors.
Though originally stained to present as a matching pair, the restoration process revealed the honesty of their construction, with different timbers used in each frame. Rather than forcing uniformity, this has been embraced. The result is a more layered pairing: one chair in a lighter, more natural tone (solid Oak), the other deeper and richer in colour (Mahogany), offering subtle contrast while still reading as companions due to the same upholstery.
The darker-toned chair features a slightly deeper seat, making it particularly well-suited to a taller sitter or for those who prefer a more relaxed, laid-back posture. The lighter chair maintains the same backrest, with a shallower, but standard seat, equally comfortable and supportive.
Both chairs have been fully restored to bring out the natural character of the wood. New upholstered seat and back cushions have been added, finished in a calm, neutral fabric. Each is paired with a scatter cushion featuring a restrained geometric pattern on one side, introducing just enough visual texture without overwhelming the form. Purposely made not to overpower the detail on the backrests.
Condition:
Very good restored condition. Both chairs have been fully restored, stripped, sanded, and resealed to bring out the natural character of the wood. New upholstered seat and back cushions have been added.
