A very interesting kiaat Mid-Century low headboard & pedestals designed by John Tabraham for Kallenbach during the 1970s. This versatile headboard could be turned into a Queen size bed headboard when bedside pedestals are tucked 'inside' the headboard. Alternatively, it can easily be turned into a King-size headboard when pedestals are placed alongside the headboard.

The pedestals are not attached to the headboard. The headboard section is made up of two sections joining. It joins in the centre with steel inner hooks. It has kiaat extenders at the back of the headboard, that is made to sit against the wall - see back of headboard photo. A magnificent beauty true to the period.

The wood has been fully restored and sealed and it is in great condition, with only one small area on one of the pedestals showing some signs of use, however consistent with age and vintage wear and minor.

Please note the height of the headboard, this particular headboard and pedestals are low (in height).

The pedestals are a solid kiaat & veneer combination and the headboard is in solid Kiaat.

Overall Headboard:  326cm W X 33cm D X 59cm H

Pedestal:  76cm W X 45,5cm D X 33cm H

Distance inside pedestals when pedestals are tucked 'inside' headboard:  167,5cm, which means it will fit a queen size mattress with ease.

1 of 2 Headboard:  162cm W X 33cm D X 59cm H (since the headboard is in two sections, the above measurement is per piece)

As with most Mid-Century pieces, it is a good combination of solid wood and a high-quality wood veneer. The quality, old veneer was long-lasting and for this reason, it can be retouched or sanded and refinished. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on the workmanship, condition and thickness of the veneer itself.
