This charming petite demi-lune dressing table is an early example from E. Gomme Ltd. of High Wycombe, one of Britain’s most respected mid-20th-century furniture makers. The piece retains its original E. Gomme registered trademark label inside the drawer, a mark of authenticity that is becoming increasingly rare to find intact. The price is indicitive of it's rarity and it comes with a brand new Haus stool.

Crafted in the brand’s earlier years, the design reflects the pre-G-Plan era styling, with a compact curved footprint, a single neat drawer fitted with original surface-mounted wooden pulls, and a distinctive triple-panel mirror framed by a scalloped back edge. The mirrors are original to the piece and remain in good condition, showing only light age-related marks that add to its vintage charm. The proportions make it especially suited to smaller bedrooms, dressing rooms, or as a statement hallway vanity.

For a fresh, contemporary touch, this restored dresser is paired with a modern "Haus by Hertex" stool in “Ash”, featuring high-density foam cushioning for lasting comfort, a compact, versatile shape, and stylish textured upholstery in a sophisticated neutral tone. We’ve included this stool in the set at a price below its usual retail value of R2 800, offering even better overall value.

This pairing blends mid-century heritage with modern comfort, making it ready for everyday use.

About E. Gomme, High Wycombe: Founded in the late 19th century in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire — the historic heart of English furniture-making — E. Gomme built its reputation on precision joinery, solid timber construction, and understated elegance. By the 1950s, the company launched the famous G-Plan brand, which became an icon of British modernist design. Early E. Gomme-branded pieces, such as this dresser, pre-date the mass-market G-Plan era and are now sought after by collectors for their rarity and historical value.

Condition:

It has been restored, ensuring it retains its patina & charm, and that the warm timber grain is protected while preserving the character of the original craftsmanship. All structural elements are solid and ready for daily use. The stool from Haus is new. Note these dressers previously came with two wooden "flower" attachments, which this one does not have.

Dimensions:

Dresser: 73.5cm W X 47cm D X 122.5cm H (total height with mirrors)

Height under dresser: 57cm H

Stool: 46cm Diameter X 50cm H.

Note/Disclaimer:

Our images form part of the item/s description. Although every effort is made to refurbish our furniture to represent its original state best, it must be noted that most of the items we source date from the 1950s to the late 1970s. For this reason, and although restored, signs of their vintage condition & age might still be visible. We will normally point out any visible/notable concerns. Take note of all photos or view the item in-store prior to purchasing.

As with many Mid-Century pieces, this item features a thoughtful combination of solid wood and high-quality wood veneer. Veneer has a long and respected tradition in furniture making, valued for both its aesthetic and structural benefits. When crafted with skill and applied in substantial thickness, vintage veneer proves highly durable, allowing for careful restoration, including retouching, sanding, and refinishing without compromising the integrity of the piece.
