A stunning Mid-Century DS Vorster extendable dining room table with eight (8) DS Vorster & Co chairs. Two of these are carvers. A manufacturer of very high-quality wooden furniture in South Africa during the '60s.
Two of the chairs are carvers with beautiful wooden armrests. The curved backrest ensures ultimate comfort.
The table is extendable in the middle and eight chairs can be placed around the table, however, 6 chairs can be "pushed" in. The chairs are beautiful and look great on either side of a sideboard too if not in use.
The wood has been fully restored and the seats and backrests have been re-upholstered in a honey-colored Hertex velvet-like fabric. For a set that is over 60 years old, it is in great restored condition with very minimal signs of it's vintage condition and age. Very minor repair was done on one edge of the table.
The chairs work out to around R1890 per chair and the large extendable table to R9800, but as a set, the price is less.

As with most Mid-Century pieces, it is a good combination of solid wood and a high-quality wood veneer. The quality, old veneer was long-lasting and for this reason, it can be retouched or sanded and refinished. The history of veneer on furniture is a long and honorable tradition, and it depends on the workmanship, condition and thickness of the veneer itself.
