A rare and refined set of four dining chairs by DS Vorster & Co, showcasing a considered balance between robust craftsmanship and thoughtful design. Distinctly different from the more common versions of this popular style, these chairs stand apart in both detail and presence.
The seats and backrests are crafted in solid Mahogany, presenting rich grain patterns and a warm tone that adds depth and character. Each chair features twin back panels, offering subtle visual rhythm while maintaining a clean, understated silhouette. Notice the sculptural way in which the seating area has been constructed, yet again, a subtle nod to thoughtful design and comfort
Set on slender black solid steel legs, the chairs are finished with elegant brass-capped feet, a small but distinctive detail that elevates the overall look and provides a pleasing contrast. Beneath the seat, an exposed metal support structure adds both visual interest and structural integrity, highlighting the considered engineering.
Comfortable, sturdy, and beautifully proportioned, these chairs work equally well around a dining table or as occasional seating. A timeless South African design with enduring appeal, restored and ready for everyday use.
Equally suitable for dining chairs or under-patio use.
Note that the table featured in some of the photos is listed separately here.

As with many Mid-Century pieces, this item features a thoughtful combination of solid wood and high-quality wood veneer. Veneer has a long and respected tradition in furniture making, valued for both its aesthetic and structural benefits. When crafted with skill and applied in substantial thickness, vintage veneer proves highly durable, allowing for careful restoration, including retouching, sanding, and refinishing without compromising the integrity of the piece.
