A refined Mid-Century record storage cabinet crafted in richly grained Kiaat, offering a clean, understated design that suits both contemporary and vintage interiors. Originally designed for LP storage, the cabinet has been thoughtfully restored and updated, making it equally at home as a record cabinet, drinks cabinet, or compact storage piece.

Behind the lockable twin doors, the interior has been reconfigured with newly cut Masonite dividers, allowing vinyl records to be stored upright as originally intended.

The upper, left shelf is perfectly proportioned for smaller format records and EPs, while the lower section accommodates standard 12-inch LPs.

The dividers can also be removed should you wish to repurpose the cabinet for books, barware or general storage. A glass shelf has been installed on the top, right-hand side, providing additional versatility for displaying glassware, books or decorative objects while preserving the cabinet's practical layout (as pictured in some of the photos). It, however, comes fitted with the record dividers.

To give the piece a lighter, more contemporary profile, a set of black steel tapered legs has been fitted, raising the cabinet to a more comfortable height while complementing its clean Mid-Century lines. The warm tones and expressive grain of the Kiaat have been fully restored, allowing the natural character of the timber to take centre stage.

Adding to its appeal is the surviving original workshop label inside the cabinet. The bilingual inscription, "Meubel Werkswinkel" (Afrikaans) and "Möbel Werkstätten" (German), identifies the cabinet as the work of a furniture workshop based in Pretoria West, South Africa.

This combination of Afrikaans and German reflects the influence of German master craftsmen who established workshops in South Africa during the mid-twentieth century, producing well-made furniture using indigenous hardwoods. The label provides a fascinating glimpse into the cabinet's provenance and the country's rich furniture-making heritage.

The label also bears the period telephone number "Tel: 2-5768", a five-digit numbering format that places its manufacture between the 1940s and early 1960s.

Condition:

Excellent condition. Fully restored and refinished, with the Kiaat grain revived throughout. Fitted with new black steel legs, new Masonite record dividers and a glass shelf. The original workshop label has been retained, and the doors lock securely with the original locking mechanism.
