A refined mid-century sideboard attributed to DS Vorster & Co or Kallenbach Furniture, two of South Africa’s most respected makers of the period. During the 1960s, their craftsmanship and design language often overlapped, with Kallenbach designs also produced through Vorster, resulting in pieces of equally high quality and distinctive character.
The layout is both elegant and practical, slightly bow fronted, featuring two wide top drawers, generous cabinet storage on either side, and a central drinks cabinet or storage section, making it ideal for use in a dining or living space. The design is defined by its clean lines, slender legs, and original handles, all hallmarks of the era.
Slightly taller than the average sideboard at 80 cm high, it works particularly well as a drinks cabinet, serving station, or statement piece in an entrance hall and as a TV unit, offering both display and functional storage.
Condition:
The wood has been fully restored and sealed, bringing out the warmth and depth of the grain, and the piece is presented in excellent restored condition, ready for use. Handles sprayed.
