A beautifully proportioned vintage daybed that captures the effortless sophistication of mid-century living. Defined by its clean horizontal lines, integrated side table surface, and elegantly tapered legs, this piece strikes a balance between practicality and sculptural form.

Daybeds enjoyed immense popularity during the 1950s and 1960s, particularly as modern homes embraced open plan living and multifunctional furniture. Serving as both a lounging piece and occasional guest bed, they became a hallmark of relaxed contemporary interiors, often appearing in the homes of architects, designers, and style conscious homeowners.

This example has been carefully restored, with the timber frame revived to highlight its warm natural tones and refined grain. The upholstery and cushioning have been renewed throughout, now covered in a richly textured butter/lemon yellow fabric from Hertex Fabrics, which brings warmth and character while remaining versatile enough to complement a wide range of interiors.

A particularly appealing feature is the integrated side table surface, offering a convenient place for books, drinks, decorative objects, or a reading lamp without the need for additional furniture. The floating platform design further enhances the piece's visual lightness, making it equally suited to a lounge, sunroom, studio, or bedroom.

Condition:

Fully restored and structurally sound. Newly upholstered with refreshed cushioning, while the timber has been carefully restored and sealed, with the top replaced on the side table.

Light age-related patina may remain in places, consistent with its vintage origin and adding to its authenticity and character.

*View in-store if you would like to see the texture and colour in person. We’ve made every effort to represent the fabric’s colour as accurately as possible; however, slight variations may occur due to lighting conditions and differences in screen resolution across devices.

Note/Disclaimer:

Our images form part of the item description. While we make every effort to restore our furniture to its original state, most pieces date from the 1950s to the late 1970s. As a result, and despite restoration, signs of their vintage nature and previous life may still be visible. Light traces of restoration may remain visible, consistent with authentic vintage furniture. In some cases, minor adjustments may also have been made during the restoration process to ensure the piece remains functional and usable. We will point out any notable aspects where possible. We encourage in-store viewing or careful review of photographs before purchase.

All items are carefully wrapped and prepared for transport by us (not the courier) to ensure safe handling. Once items leave our premises, we cannot take responsibility for their treatment by third-party transporters. We strongly recommend arranging goods-in-transit insurance for comprehensive protection.

Due to the fragility of glass, we do not recommend shipping glass items outside of Gauteng.

As with many Mid-Century pieces, this item features a thoughtful combination of solid wood and high-quality wood veneer. Veneer has a long and respected tradition in furniture making, valued for both its aesthetic and structural benefits. When crafted with skill and applied in substantial thickness, vintage veneer proves highly durable, allowing for careful restoration, including retouching, sanding, and refinishing without compromising the integrity of the piece.
