United Kingdom, circa 1960s.
A beautifully proportioned mid century display or drinks cabinet by Turnidge of London, defined by its confident architectural lines and warm teak tone. The design balances vertical structure with a gentle sculptural softness, most notably seen in the distinctive round, carved drawer pulls and subtly recessed lower section.
The upper display compartment presents as a refined drinks or showcase cabinet, now fitted with new glass sliding doors for both protection and practicality. Internally, the cabinet features a glass shelf, and an additional custom-cut glass shelf has been added to enhance display capacity while maintaining visual lightness. The interplay between teak framing and glass creates that unmistakable 1960s British modern aesthetic, functional yet quietly elegant.
The lower drawer sits neatly within the structure, its sculpted circular pulls acting as subtle design punctuation. The cabinet stands on a solid, well-structured base, giving it elevation and presence without heaviness.
A versatile piece that works equally well as a drinks cabinet, bar display, curated object showcase, or compact statement storage or bookcase unit.
Compact, not large, yet offering great functionality.
About Turnidge of London
Turnidge was a respected British furniture manufacturer active primarily during the mid twentieth century. The company gained recognition in the 1950s and 1960s for producing well crafted teak furniture that reflected the evolving tastes of post-war Britain. Their designs embraced clean modernist lines while retaining warmth and approachability, positioning them alongside other notable British makers of the era.
While not as widely publicised as some Scandinavian brands of the period, Turnidge has developed a strong collector following for its restrained British modernism and dependable craftsmanship.

As with many Mid-Century pieces, this item features a thoughtful combination of solid wood and high-quality wood veneer. Veneer has a long and respected tradition in furniture making, valued for both its aesthetic and structural benefits. When crafted with skill and applied in substantial thickness, vintage veneer proves highly durable, allowing for careful restoration, including retouching, sanding, and refinishing without compromising the integrity of the piece.
