This small vintage brass trivet features an openwork design with a heraldic motif at its centre. The crest depicts a shield with crossed swords beneath a knight’s helmet, flanked by stylised animals and banners. The Latin motto “Dieu et mon droit” (“God and my right”) is inscribed along the base, a phrase historically used as the motto of the British monarchy. Decorative scrolls and flourishes complete the intricate design, giving the piece both functional and ornamental appeal.

About Trivets: Trivets have been used for centuries to protect surfaces from the heat of pots, pans, and kettles. Traditionally made from cast iron or brass, they were often designed not only for utility but also as decorative household items, sometimes incorporating crests, mottos, or regional emblems. This particular trivet, with its heraldic theme, would have likely been used in a domestic setting while also reflecting pride in heritage and craftsmanship.

A collectible piece that blends practicality with historical charm, suitable for display or continued use in the kitchen or dining room.
