A rare and exceptionally sturdy set of six dining chairs by celebrated South African maker DS Vorster & Co, a true expression of mid-century modern design at its finest.
These chairs showcase Vorster’s distinctive A-frame silhouette when viewed from the back, paired with beautifully sculpted backrests that offer both visual impact and comfort.
The lines are confident yet refined, striking the perfect balance between strength and elegance.
Four of the chairs feature richly worn leather seats with an authentic lived-in patina that speaks to decades of use and character. The remaining two are fitted with solid Kiaat seats, expertly crafted and equally striking in their simplicity. Beneath the leather seats, moulded fibreglass reinforcement provides remarkable structural support, making these chairs not only visually compelling but extraordinarily robust.
Please note that the six chairs form a cohesive and striking set, identical in build and design, creating a beautifully balanced presence around a table. If you have a rectangular dining table, two chairs can be positioned at the heads of the table, with the remaining four placed along the sides for a classic and well-proportioned arrangement.

Condition:
Carefully and thoroughly restored, the solid Kiaat frames have been refinished and are now in excellent condition, highlighting the richness of the woodgrain while preserving the integrity of the original craftsmanship.
The original leather seats remain intact. We chose to retain them as is, embracing their natural patina and visible signs of age. We absolutely love it. They do show wear and age-related markings, which we see as honest character earned over time. This lived-in quality is not something that can be artificially recreated.
We understand that this look will not appeal to everyone. For some, the patina is exactly what makes the chairs special. For others, it may feel too worn. We have tried to represent the condition as accurately as possible in the photographs. Please review the images carefully and, if you are particular about the condition, we recommend viewing the chairs in-store.
