Note the variations in the chairs - they are available to be purchased individually
These chairs have been attributed to Ring Mekanikk (RM) based on extensive archival research and the presence of specific manufacturing details. The unmistakable “RM” maker’s mark, cast into the metal base, aligns with documented examples from the Norwegian company active from the 1940s onward. Additionally, the chairs are fitted with 45mm “Diplomat” wheels, a component often found on mid-century Scandinavian office furniture.
While these identifiers, combined with their build quality, design language, and engineering - strongly suggest RM provenance, they are our primary points of reference, as no additional labeling or documentation remains. Our research draws on mid-century industrial catalogs, patent records, and comparisons with verified RM examples to build a credible narrative around their origin.
Functionally, these chairs feature height adjustment via a smooth rotational mechanism, a hallmark of practical innovation from the era. They have been reupholstered and restored, preserving both their distinctive mid-century character and usability.
The base and mechanical components are made from cast aluminum, typical of Ring Mekanikk’s utilitarian design approach. This material was favoured in mid-century Scandinavian furniture for its strength, light weight, and corrosion resistance, offering durability without sacrificing clean, industrial aesthetics.
